SAIKU × SHALA “Waiting for you” music video

I made “SAIKU × SHALA — Waiting for you,” set in Saiku, Mie. Saiku is where the Saio, who served Ise Grand Shrine on the emperor's behalf, once lived. Across a thousand years, it is a place that still holds a quiet presence.
When a place and an expression resonate
Capturing on film the moment when the air of a place and an artist's expression resonate. Not zero or one, not black or white, but like the gradient between sky and sea, I aimed for a film in which viewers can gently entrust their hearts to a world beyond words.
Not explaining too much
Trusting the space in the song “Waiting for you” and the stillness of Saiku, the film stays devoted to leaving space. I designed it so that each viewer's own memories and feelings could gently flow in between the images.
A work that brings together “Waiting for you,” an original song SHALA wrote with Saiku and the Saio in mind, and the world of the Saiku Heian Emaki Projection Mapping. It depicts the story of Saiku and the Saio, handed down from the past to the future. I took part as shooting director.
