Mikawa Bushi no Yakata Ieyasu-kan | Armor projection mapping

2021.12 — 2022.01 | Projection mapping

The Iyeyasu and Mikawa Bushi Museum Samurai Armor Projection Mapping

At Mikawa Bushi no Yakata Ieyasu-kan in Okazaki, Aichi, I made projection mapping onto a suit of armor. Okazaki is the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu, a castle town where the story of the warlord who laid the foundation for a long peace still lives.

Updating an exhibition with film

Layering images of light onto a suit of armor standing still. When a historical object meets film, it begins to move in the viewer's imagination. A relic of the past behind glass rises up as a living story inside each person. An attempt to update the very experience of an exhibition through film.

Telling a story with light

Combining motion graphics and projection mapping, I wrote in light a story that can only be told in that place: the form of the armor, the air of the era, the spirit dwelling in it. I took care to layer the light gently, without erasing the texture of the real object.

Under the production of HITOHATA Inc., a Nagoya-based digital content company, I created the projection mapping content. The same year, I also took part in the “Heian picture scroll” projection mapping at Saiku in Mie. It is work that layers beautiful Japanese culture with today's visual expression.

I have worked on projection mapping in Nagoya since 2017. In 2019, I also took part in 3D projection mapping for Amazon Fashion Week (HIROKO KOSHINO).
