Our Association × My Project Award for high school students2026.01 | Education support / Documentary film (Aichi)
Working with Our Association (Aichi), I made the after movie for the My Project Award for high school students. The award, organized by the certified NPO Katariba, is a place where high school students share and learn from the journeys of taking action on issues close to them. Our supports the Aichi side, walking alongside students' challenges through regional summits and coaching.
Background
As inquiry-based learning spreads, how do we celebrate each student's challenge, which cannot be measured in scores? The film was born from a wish to shine a light on the process itself, before any outcomes or results: students worrying, wavering, and still taking a step forward.
Teaching while filming together
This time, I filmed together with students of Inuyama Sogo High School, where I had given a talk. How to hold the camera, how far to stand from the subject, how to choose the moment to capture: handing over each part of filming one by one, they wove the after movie with their own hands. Not a staged feel-good story, but the raw words and expressions of the students there, recorded from their own point of view.
As a maker
As I was teaching film to today's high school students, I suddenly saw my younger self in them. It has been more than ten years since I discovered filmmaking at my school festival in my second year of high school. I was not good at studying or sports, and yet through film I met so many precious people, and was told, “I love your films.” I cannot say how much that saved me. There is still more I cannot do than I can, but this, I think, I will keep doing forever.
Coverage
This work was covered by the Chunichi Shimbun. May this effort in Aichi to support high school students and young people continue. I hope film can be something that gently encourages them.
Not only making and delivering films, but passing the ability to make them on to the next generation. That is how I value being involved in education.

I finished the opening film shown at the start of the event through four revisions. The final version was ready two days before.

Sharing cameras with students of Inuyama Sogo High School, we filmed the high school students at the venue.

Highlights released
Editing
Eighteen days after the event, after six revisions, it was released on Our's official channel. After completion, I also corrected the name tags at the request of Katariba's PR team.
